The Queen’s flag

Queen's University Tricolour flagThe other day my friend Pauline had an opening in her studio and I had some unbooked time as well, so I headed over there with some props, and we played around with some still-life scenes. Or, in the case of this flag, some not-so-still life.

With this little desktop flag taped to some white seamless (so it wouldn’t blow over) we took turns holding the fan while the other captured the action. Very simple stuff—two lights in umbrellas on the 45′s. Turned out pretty well, I think, although I did have to rotate the photo a bit because the wind put a pretty good lean into it. But the white seamless makes it a snap to cut the flag out of the background.

The flag is from my alma mater, Queen’s University at Kingston. It’s a damn fine school if I may say so, and I will—tonight, I’m representing the university at a reception for local high school guidance counselors. It’s going to be fun. And if you want to know more about the Tricolour—or studying at Queen’s—feel free to get in touch.
