For a vacation this year, Perrie, Daphne and I decided to rent a cottage in northern Michigan for (almost) a week. Perrie did most of the research and found Corey Cove Shores Resort on Otsego Lake, about 10 minutes south of Gaylord. The lake runs about five miles north to south and is about a mile east to west; Corey Cove is about midway up the west side. The lake is quite shallow—6 to 8 feet in most places, with a maximum depth of 25 feet (source)—but that was more than enough for our purposes.

The cabin was perfect—right on the beach, easy to access, and it had everything we needed, even a paddle boat. The weather at the end of August was cool at night, but warm enough in the day. We spent most of our days playing on the beach, swimming, and simply enjoying the solitude. We ate every meal outdoors. And of course there were s’mores at night, by the fire. We went into Gaylord a couple of times—much more vibrant than we’d expected—and also made a day trip to Mackinaw City. That trip, however, will have to wait for a separate post.
